A bottle of fine wine

The 26th day of August in the year 2008 marked the beginning of my final year where my age starts with a 2. After this year, i shall dread filling up forms that have a column marked "AGE:____ ". From next year onwards i might just fill in "AGE: quit asking, its in my i/c number." i don't want to be constantly reminded of my age! gawddamnnit... i wanna stay 21 forever!
I live by the saying "Age is just a number" and the tune from the Toys 'R' Us Tv commercial (from back in the days...) constantly plays though my mind... i behave and act like a 5-year old on a constant basis, fascinated by new toys, and no day of mine goes by without overdoses of laughter - partly due to my friends who are also plagued with the same immature syndrome...

Think about it... Who in the right mind would actually want to grow OLD? It irks me when people say: "you're almost 30 la!, grow up la!" or things like "you're 29 de la bro, you still like clothes like that ah??" "you're almost 30 and you still want to drive such a car ah? buy a 4-door la.." urgh...To me questions and statements like that equate to saying that you're nearing your death and you should prepare for it, why not just go out and buy a casket?. I don't recall any authority or higher being penning a set of rules and guidelines on "how to behave your age at XX"..or "car to drive when you're XX years old". its funny how some people 'believe' that there is a certain way a person should behave at a certain given age. i find that bewildering. But society is such, especially more so in Asian cultures i think, where fear denotes how one should live. Fear of what others may think, fear of being different, this fear forces the weak to conform to normality, to suppress individual expression, to just fade into oblivion - lost in the sea of monochromatic souls living life as a routine, stipulated solely by the observation of their seniors. I believe, you are who you are and how you express it is your personal choice. Food needs to be put on the table, so of course while executing your responsibilities at work and such you may be required to conduct yourself in a certain manner. But during your own free and social time, by all means LET LOOSE! LIVE LIFE! YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE.
Each to their own though, i was raised to respect individual choices and adapt accordingly... but there's no harm in talking a whole lot about my personal opinions! contradictory as they may be..

i'm living, loving, and enjoying life as it comes. You are only young once, but you can stay immature indefinitely! Toys'R'us Kid for life!

i leave you with some quotes on age...beginning with my favorite.

"Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. Nothing does - except wrinkles. It's true, some wines improve with age. But only if the grapes were good in the first place."
- Abigail Van Buren (1918 - 1978)

"By the time we've made it, we've had it."
- Malcolm Forbes, The Capitalist Handbook

"You don't stop laughing when you grow old, you grow old because you stopped laughing."
- Michael Pritchard

"The young have aspirations that never come to pass, the old have reminiscences of what never happened. "
- Saki (1870 - 1916)

"I think age is a very high price to pay for maturity."
- Tom Stoppard (1937 - )
